BLUEBIRD

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsc3ItAKSLc]

there’s a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I’m too tough for him,
I say, stay in there, I’m not going
to let anybody see
you.
there’s a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I pour whiskey on him and inhale
cigarette smoke
and the whores and the bartenders
and the grocery clerks
never know that
he’s
in there.

there’s a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I’m too tough for him,
I say,
stay down, do you want to mess
me up?
you want to screw up the
works?
you want to blow my book sales in
Europe?
there’s a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I’m too clever, I only let him out
at night sometimes
when everybody’s asleep.
I say, I know that you’re there,
so don’t be
sad.
then I put him back,
but he’s singing a little
in there, I haven’t quite let him
die
and we sleep together like
that
with our
secret pact
and it’s nice enough to
make a man
weep, but I don’t
weep, do
you?

A TAKE AWAY SHOW

One of the best music blogs we’ve come across : La Blogotheque.

They share music with such passion.  They don’t only post amazing music videos but they describe them in a great way as well. The descriptions are in French though, sorry non-french speakers! They make you feel the atmosphere and it makes us want to teleport to that exact place.

Here are a few examples :

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg-goUrHgMg]

Chris Garneau – Between the bars. (which by the way, we are obsessed with) ‘There was low lighting, a menu scratched in chalk, smoky air, girls laughing, and clinking glasses. There was a dark, wooden piano, a hideous caricature statue of Gainsbourg, magazines strewn all about, and abounding discussion. There was a guy bent over the ivory with stooping shoulders, who seemed to be singing for his own amusement. His name was Chris Garneau…’

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erpnq7SwcCs&list=UUFAKGci5lneha2x4XMbzYrQ&index=100&feature=plcp]

Yann Tiersen – Palestine & Amy. ‘You have to go down from a narrow staircase to get to his studio. The floor is full of cables. It’s intimidating enough to be here, we’re more used to be filming young new talents rather than ‘already famous’ artists. But all of those thoughts disappear very quickly seeing Yann is as frightened as we are. The musicians surround him. And all of a sudden, the group notion makes sense. This balance that dregs them makes sense.

Iron and Wine – Tree by the river. And yes, they took Sam Beam, aka Iron & Wine, ‘to taste some… wine, and then asked him to play in the cave, amongst the best bottles’

Soiree de Poche – A teaser. Bands in this video : Vampire Weekend / Beirut / The Dodos / Fool’s Gold / Andrew Bird / Kings of Convenience / Beach House

Bon Iver – Skinny Love. ‘A magic that depended on its intimacy, of course; on the acoustics; but, above all, on the reciprocity. Between each song, Justin took a few minutes to talk to us, telling us how happy they were to be there, on that particular night, with such a small crowd..’

SHAME

Little White Lies, Issue 39.

Emerging from the detritus of porn cuttings and dark ruminations, the new issue of LWLies is dedicated to Steve McQueen’s icy sex-addiction drama Shame, starring the sensational Michael Fassbender.

Cornered in his hotel room during the Toronto Film Festival, the ever-provocative Steve McQueen ruminates on free will, desire and his upcoming film Shame.The director’s sophomore feature takes an unflinching look at the destructive nature of sex addiction, following Michael Fassbender’s corporate drone Brandon through a solitary routine of meaningless sexual encounters.

‘The collide between morality and addiction, where one ends and the other begins.’

We CAN’T wait to watch it.

TOUCHING FLOWERS

The film portrays a girl being aroused by a man in the room next door touching flowers. The house seems to shake as if she has some kind of telekinetic powers that are only activated at times of stress,” the artist and director Calum Macdiarmid  explains, before  adding “The end of the film is about the awkward moment after sex; its all good fun when the music is playing and everything reaches a climax. But then there’s that moment straight after, where you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and you think ‘what on earth was all that about?’

SLOW CLUB

An ample dose of feelgood for what is a morning full of freezing here in London. Slow Club’s new video is nothing groundbreaking, but as Alex Bec says ‘I love seeing a well executed tour diary, confirming that not only is their music better than yours, also their lives are way cooler’

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dRTWY9t5GU]

To those who don’t know much about this band, Slow club, is a folk-rock duo from Sheffield, England. The band formed in 2006, after the break-up of Sheffield band The Lonely Hearts.The effect is rockabilly and somewhat folksy but thankfully their songs are fairly jolly affairs without a bit of teenage angst in sight.

Other songs we like :

SUGAR SWEET SUNSHINE

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qhl0_HUMYc]

At Louis Vuitton’s latest catwalk, models wore tiaras or thin white Alice bands as they either rode the mery-go-round or walked down the catwalk in a collection that combined soft pastels in green, peach and blue with vibrant yellow and fresh white. The merry-go around theme reminded us of the Chanel Fall 2008/2009 show. Such a shame, because this was Louis Vuitton’s best collection in many years and the whole carousel theme distracted the audience a little bit.

ALTERNATIVE MISS WORLD

That’s what showing off is about!

Andrew Logan belongs to a unique school of English eccentrics. One of Britain’s principal sculptural artists, he challenges convention, mixes media and plays with our artistic values. Since its beginnings, Logan’s work has depended on the inventive use of whatever was to hand. With flair and fantasy he transformed real objects into their new and different versions. His artistic world includes fauna, flora, planets and gods. His love of travel provides the bases for several series of work.

Andrew Logan has been running the Alternative Miss World, a spectacular costume pageant and fancy dress party for grown ups, since 1972.
In The British Guide to Showing Off, director Jes Benstock takes us under Logan’s glittering wing to take a joyous look at this most quirky and exotic subculture event.Raucous, liberating and sexually charged, The British Guide to Showing Off speaks to the outsider in all of us. For anyone who has ever wanted to break out.
