KIDNEY BEAN

From the moment of her birth, she was probably the most famous baby on the planet at that time. Frances Bean Cobain. Daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. And as if this isn’t enough, her godfather is former R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe, and Drew Barrymore is her godmother. Actually we don’t really know what she does. Apparently she’s an artist/singer/model/journalist. Sounds a bit typical. But what we’ve seen so far is impressive. This is a grungy photo shoot that Frances modeled for famous photographer Hedi Slimane. We’ve shared some of Slimane’s photos before on our post ‘The Kids Are Alright‘. He really does know how to do grungy and powerful photography. No wonder why he’s the favourite of all rock star daughters.

Here are some imagery that reminded us of her style.

SUGAR SWEET SUNSHINE

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qhl0_HUMYc]

At Louis Vuitton’s latest catwalk, models wore tiaras or thin white Alice bands as they either rode the mery-go-round or walked down the catwalk in a collection that combined soft pastels in green, peach and blue with vibrant yellow and fresh white. The merry-go around theme reminded us of the Chanel Fall 2008/2009 show. Such a shame, because this was Louis Vuitton’s best collection in many years and the whole carousel theme distracted the audience a little bit.

CIGARETTE DUET

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TV_128Fz2g]

The song’s called “The Cigarette Duet” and it comes from a indie pop duo from New Zealand called Princess Chelsea. It’s taken off their recently released album, Lil’ Golden Book.

It’s oddly catchy!

ETHEL VAUGHN

ETHEL VAUGHN uses a great variety of materials, colours and forms. Classic cuts and forms combined with exceptional details create pieces that are casual and yet flattering with strong extrovert accents. Check out their blog here .

But to be honest, we loved their video more than the collection.

VERSACE FOR H&M

Today!!

Designed by creative director Donatella Versace, this collection aims to showcase the style of the prints the brand was renowned for when Gianni Versace was head of design. The collection will include ranges for women, men and selected pieces for the home. The collection will launch in-store on November 17 in 300 stores worldwide, as well as online. In addition to this, Donatella Versace has also designed a pre-spring collection for H&M, which will be exclusively available in countries with H&M online sales from January 19 2012.

The womenswear collection is dominated by dresses, with sleeveless leather shifts decorated with metallic studding, bold scarf prints on silks and all-over sequins. Heavy embellishments have also been a key design detail for waistbands and bodices, or all-over for a dramatic evening look. Printed leggings are a key item in bold florals in clashing colourways.

The men’s collection concentrates on colourful tailoring, with suits in hot pink and zebra print. Varsity jackets are presented in black with mixed-print sleeves, with bulky leather bikers covered in gold and silver studding. Voluminous tailored shorts are decorated with studding on the side seam with belts and leather cuffs to match.

Very best of Versace for H&M

SWEATS WITH MEANING

Two friends, endless ideas and a website. That’s how it all begins right? Alec and Greta are both pop art fans and they just gather fun imagery and put them on sweats. Something we use to do with t-shirts for our previous blog ‘Temporary Pleasures’. Unfortunately these sweaters are not for sale yet, a lot of copyright issues to deal with probably.. Even tough you can’t buy one, it’s still great to have a look at their crazy designs on their website Sexy Sweaters. There are so many options to look at! A lot of bright colours and many images that will take you back to your childhood, to the 90s.

ALTERNATIVE MISS WORLD

That’s what showing off is about!

Andrew Logan belongs to a unique school of English eccentrics. One of Britain’s principal sculptural artists, he challenges convention, mixes media and plays with our artistic values. Since its beginnings, Logan’s work has depended on the inventive use of whatever was to hand. With flair and fantasy he transformed real objects into their new and different versions. His artistic world includes fauna, flora, planets and gods. His love of travel provides the bases for several series of work.

Andrew Logan has been running the Alternative Miss World, a spectacular costume pageant and fancy dress party for grown ups, since 1972.
In The British Guide to Showing Off, director Jes Benstock takes us under Logan’s glittering wing to take a joyous look at this most quirky and exotic subculture event.Raucous, liberating and sexually charged, The British Guide to Showing Off speaks to the outsider in all of us. For anyone who has ever wanted to break out.

VERY POP MEN

Who said menswear was boring?

Spring/summer 2012 promises to be a strong season for menswear, with an update of classics through colour and fabric, maybe adding a quirky injection of newness via print and pattern. Even tough the neutrals are really strong as always, we decided to focus on the new key, fun, pop colours.

How far can you go with colour? See New Villager’s interpretation.

MAGGIE’S APPETITE

I started working on the theme of ‘communication’ a long time ago. I first started with the video ‘All the things we never say‘ and continued with the video ‘TALK‘. Both of them were sort of an introduction to ‘Maggie’s Appetite’.

Maggie’s Appetite is a short movie I’ve filmed for my final project about communication in couples.
